Anne Dublin’s
parents are Holocaust survivors who came to Canada after
World War II. Anne grew up in a house without books,
but there were lots of stories that she loved to listen
to. Eventually, she discovered the public library, which
opened up a whole new world. Anne read books in the
biography section about famous people like Alexander
Graham Bell and Florence Nightingale. She also loved
the Anne novels by L.M. Montgomery, the Nancy Drew mysteries,
and even Superman comic books. When she grew up, she
taught English and French at elementary schools for
many years. But she still didn’t think of herself
as a writer.
When Anne’s children were young, she read to
them and made up stories. Soon she started going to
storytelling evenings and eventually took a couple of
storytelling courses. She fell in love with stories
all over again.
After telling one particular family story, Anne wanted
to write it down. That story became an important scene
in her first novel, Written on the Wind. Now
that she’s been writing for over ten years, Anne
can’t imagine her life without writing.
