Before becoming a storyteller and an author, Aubrey
Davis worked as a logger, farmer, salesman, and
teacher. In his travels across Europe and North Africa,
he discovered traditional folktales.
"The best of them puzzled, shocked, and delighted
me," says Aubrey. "They were bottomless.
They helped me see the world and myself in fresh,
new ways. They made me think like I’d never
thought before."
For over 25 years, Aubrey has told stories to people
of all ages. He has performed and conducted workshops
across Canada and the U.S. Although now retired from
teaching, he taught an oral language program to primary
and special needs students for 17 years.
The latest of his four published books, Bagels
for Benny, has won multiple awards, including
the Sydney Taylor Award and the Canadian Jewish Book
Award (children’s literature). Aubrey also wrote
the screenplay for Sheldon Cohen’s animated
film "The Three Wishes." A forthcoming title,
A Hen for Izzy Pippik, will be published
in 2010.
Aubrey lives in Toronto with wife, storyteller Sandra
Carpenter-Davis, and their dog, JojoBella. His two married
children and granddaughter live nearby.
