When Sarah is teamed up with Byron Hopper for a geography
project, she discovers that she's had an easier time
being accepted in her new town than some long-time
residents. Byron's family has long been the subject
of nasty rumours. The most sinister one surrounds
Byron's sister Garnet, who many believe committed
murder. Sarah resolves to get closer to Byron to find
out more about his mysterious family . . . and to
get to the bottom of the alleged murder. In doing
so, she learns that the family has another secret:
They're Wiccan. As Sarah learns more about the family,
she also cuts through popular misconceptions about
Wicca and its beliefs, how Wiccans worship, and what
values they hold dear.

Sarah Martin is bored. Thanks to her
father's transfer from an inner-city police division
to a small-town detachment, she is forced to live in
Muskoka--no friends, no mall, no life. But when Sarah
does make a new friend, Mindi, life get considerably
more interesting, as the two become aware of suspicious
activity centred around an old barn belonging to Mindi's
mother's boyfriend. When Sarah discovers that the barn
actually holds a dozen wild black bears, she will stop
at nothing to save them from their fate at the hands
of an organized poaching ring. But in her efforts, she
puts lives in peril.
