Debbie
Spring writes children's books for all ages. Overcoming
obstacles and conquering adversity is a favourite theme.
In Debbie’s books about the Holocaust,
her protagonists call upon faith in humanity and personal
courage to fight for freedom—for themselves and
others—despite immediate threats to their lives.
The characters in Debbie’s middle-grade
novels fight through their health problems. They refuse
to be defined as handicapped. They do everything in
their power to live, to excel, and to achieve their
goals.
Debbie’s picture books connect her characters
with nature, and teach children about the beauty of
nature, and the need to protect endangered species.
Debbie has spoken to over 6,000 students
about her books. She has appeared on CBC radio and CTV
television, and in newspaper interviews. She offers a
variety of workshops on writing and on the topics covered
in her books. These workshops are interactive, intense,
and interesting. They can range from one-hour sessions
to a half-day or a full day. Longer sessions offer more
time for in-depth study.
