Mahtab means moonlight in Persian.
Mahtab
Narsimhan was born in Mumbai and immigrated to Canada
in 1997. The catalyst that started her down the path of
writing was a tragic one. Her father passed away due to
cancer in September of 2003. Shocked and devastated, Mahtab
turned to books for solace. She started jotting down her
thoughts and memories of life back home so that she would
never forget. These scribblings, along with her love for
fantasy, morphed into a novel.
The Third Eye took four years
and 20 rewrites before making it to publication and went
on to win the Silver Birch Fiction Award in 2009. An entertainment
company has recently renewed their option to make the
book into a full-length feature film.
Mahtab’s latest novel, The Tiffin,
was published in August, 2011 by Dancing Cat Books, an
imprint of Cormorant Books. This gritty, middle-grade
novel is based in the Bombay of Mahtab’s childhood.
Quill & Quire gave it a starred review and
named it one of 2011’s "top five books for
young people."
